69 Anglers competed in the 2005 Gold Cup for the Championship Ring! A field of 26 teams participated in this year's event. Angler Armando Horta released 10 fish to win the coveted championship ring. Armando and teammate Becky Hester fished aboard Captain Paul Ross' Relentless.
The Relentless team will have their names engraved on the perpetual team trophy that is displayed at the Islamorada Fishing Club. Once again Pursuit Boats and Caribee Boat Sales joined the Gold Cup sponsorship list this year to make this event the best ever.
All money raised in the Florida Keys Gold Cup Sailfish Championship benefits the Islamorada Charter Boat Association. Gold Cup anglers released 71 sailfish during the Islamorada Tournament, 57 at Cheeca Lodge, and 40 sails on the final leg at the Islamorada Fishing Club for a total of 168 releases.
